Sorry for the sever lack of posts -- my blog and website are undergoing a serious face life and awesome transformation. I felt it was time to put the last few years of school projects and random photos into an archive and start fresh..... so keep an eye out for my new blog and website which will be revealed soon!

Delightful Dinner

I love grilling and when it is this hot in the Summer and cooking in the kitchen is not an option... the charcoal comes out and so does some of my favorite Summertime eats.

We made de-lish Kabobs and for desert I threw on some caramel soaked peaches.
If you want to make something similar to this here is what you will need.

6 -8 peaches or nectarines
1/4 cup of caramel liquor or in our case Starbucks caramel flavored syrup
1 tsp of sea salt
let that all soak together for an hour then place face down right onto your hot grill
once you have a nice char on both sides of your peaches place 2-3 peach halves in a bowl and add a scoop of your favorite ice cream and a dollop of home made whipped cream-
We did a sugar free Turtle Sundae and I like to let my home made whipped cream get a little frosty in the freezer before I serve it.
Top this little heap of heaven with some crushed graham crackers or amaretto cookies and enjoy!

A very special Birthday

I just shot this private party on Saturday and it was so fun! Jeremy's little lady is one lucky gal! They rented this entire house up near the Draper temple and had the party catered by Naked Fish Japanese Bistro in Salt Lake. Talk about a high class birthday! I am sorry I have been MIA for a while now but I have had my hands full with my new little one and finishing my Senior BFA project. I am happy to say that I have finished my project and it is now up until graduation in the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU in gallery 303.

You are invited to come take a look this Thursday April 8th, 2010 at the opening reception from 7 to 9 pm. There will be tons of other art work and light refreshments will be served.
This would be a great start for a date night.

I have been doing a lot of free photography lately for families who are in really tough situations and in need of a little pick me up. This was one of those quick little shoots. Baby Omari is so sweet and squishy. I love shooting babies when they are this small. I can't wait to get some really good practice with my own next week!

I am so glad that I got to shoot Roy's bridals, sadly I am not able to shoot her wedding this weekend since 10 hours of shooting, and shouting at bridal parties was just not sounding like the most fun experience when I am only a week away from delivering baby Lulu.

I have had quite a few brides asking when I will be back out working. I will start booking the first week of March for bridals and engagements but I won't be shooting any weddings until the first week of May.

It feels so good to finally do something with pictures that I have been holding on to but haven't done anything with-- I might be doing a bunch of random postings for the next couple of weeks. I am just trying to clear out the clutter and I don't feel as bad about throwing things away if I have gotten to show someone at least one picture from a group of 25. I just cleared out about 8 thousand test shots and old old old wedding and engagement photos from other people that I will never look at again -- it felt so good!

At the beginning of this semester for my fine art photography class we were asked to come up with some ideas for projects, the sign holder project was my first choice but sadly it seemed as if all the sign holders in Provo just disappeared. I had to give up that project for the class since I didn't think I could get enough sign holders to make a good body of work.... that was until today. Driving home from Salt Lake we passed the Hamburgler, and I just could not resist the urge to flip a U-ie and get that project started.
So here is the first of many more to come of "The sign holder project".

I had to think of all the things I was grateful for today cause it was a rough one, and got really excited when I came across these old pictures in my archives.
So, one of the things I am grateful for is -- the fun days ahead that I will have with my baby girl and all the tea parties we'll get to have on those long summer days at home.

When you get fun and unexpected surprises, like oh -- babies, it is some times hard to see all the positive things that are in store, especially when you finally feel like you have a "plan" for work and the end of school and it all falls to pieces.

I shot a beautiful family bible today as a favor for a friend. It is nearly 150 years old and will soon be put away to protect it - It was really cool being able to turn through the extremely delicate book and see all of the births and deaths of this family over the last hundred + years. I photographed the entire cover as well as about 20 pages of text and family history. This is to act as a way of preserving history and a way of being able to share it with grandchildren in the future without causing any more damage. It is meant to be a birthday gift for Suzy's father. I hope he likes it.

A Cinderella Story

I was asked to do an illustrative series for the story of Cinderella at work. This is the first of a series of 17 images for a Japanese course. I am excited to see what the rest of the images will look like. I'll keep you all posted on this big project.

My Version

So last week I did a beauty shoot with Pictorial-- just trying to continue to get better, learn and grow while school is out. I learned a ton and I am really impressed with the way that David and Elka Engle are running their business. I highly recommend them for any commercial work you need done. They are really professional, organized and talented- not to mention a super team. Elka is incredible at getting the models ready and looking their best while David is getting lighting ready and setting up his shot. I wish I had a person like Elka to style everything and pose the model perfectly. She is all about details. While I messed around for two hours and hoped to get a great shot, these two came together and directed a beautiful picture and were done with this AWESOME shot in 5 min. It would be nice to have someone watching your back who shares a vision and helps you get an image that is perfectly posed. David and Elka thanks again for letting me come -- it made me realize that I have a lot I need to learn and it gave me something to work toward.
So this photograph was taken by David and edited by Elka and as a little challenge I wanted to see how close I could come to editing the same picture. Needless to say Elka and I have a very different way of editing but I learned a lot by seeing where someone started and where they ended. This is a buisness where most people are not willing to share their secrets so thanks again David and Elka for giving me a glimpse.

BTW Elka's hair edit looks much better then mine -- so much more natural. Not sure how she did hers but I am jealous!

Aska's Senior Recital

Aska and I were roommates for the year before Koa and I were married. She is a super sweetheart and her music is so beautiful. In fact you should all come to her senior recital tomorrow June 12, at BYU in the MOA auditorium at 1 pm.
This was a fun 20 min photoshoot -- The Sun was going down fast and we needed just one picture for her flyer to let people know about her recital. The field we found was beautiful but we were being eatten alive by mosquitoes out there... NOTE TO SELF... ALWAYS HAVE BUG SPRAY!!!

I have been so busy this Summer! I feel like I have not even had a chance to breathe. I have literally been shooting projects almost every other day and the in between days have been spent planning and gathering for the next. I get so annoyed with my self sometimes... I know that I should pull out my flash when the sun has been down for 10 min and I am shooting at ISo 1600.. all the way open at f/4 and hand holding at 1/40 sec with a 24- 105mm lens at 105 but I just didn't and I am kicking my self for it.... The slade wedding I shot last Wed. was so pretty --- especially all of Colin's sisters. So I tried to snag one last picture before I went for my flash and this was the result... I barely saved it... but this picture won't look good any bigger than an 8x10 because there was so much noise when I tried to save the bad exposure in RAW. Bummer since she is so dang pretty!

I just did this shoot this afternoon for an editorial final. Todd is honestly the sweetest guy around. He and I went to school together at good old PG Junior High ten years ago. We got reacquainted about three years ago while I was working at the Orem Starbucks. Although we have both changed quite a bit I recognized him right away .... oh background info... I moved to Indiana at the end of my eighth grade year.... soooo it had been a while since we had seen each other but I knew exactly who he was even though we both looked soooo different since we had not seen eachother since we were, oh 14. This is one of my favorite beaches on O'ahu - 2nd place to Waimea, you can't beat the big rock for jumping off of or the nice deep gentle waves in the summer. Waimea in the winter is a whole other story but for the summer you just can't beat it.
This was taken on a hike up to the pillboxes about Lanikai, early before the sun came up. It was one of the most incredible views I have ever seen. Well worth getting up at 4 to see it.

So I am officially the worst blogger ever I know! There are a few of you that have been really bugging me about getting pictures of our wedding up so this is the first of many to come.... and actually it is from our first 3 nights on our honeymoon-- we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in a very posh little room. It was so nice! We had two balcony's one that was ocean front and the other looked out over their big blue lagoon--- Sorry if the quality isn't that great... these were all take with my little canon power shot---

This was our view on the .... 3rd part of our honeymoon on the Big Island. We stayed at the Outrigger in Keauhou. It was so pretty we were on the top floor with a corner ocean front room so we got two balconies!!! The best part about this hotel is that it literally is built over the water so when you look out over the edge all you can see is ocean, there are about 15 or so turtles that live right there.
One of the little trips we made while we were in the Kona area on the Big Island was to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau-- the city of refuge. It is really a cool place with an incredible history. I highly recommend a visit over

So for you that don't know I work for BYU Independent Study as a Graphic Designer. Basically what I do is make the "splash" or front cover of an online course. Here is what I have been working on for Aerobics!!!!

These two others are ones that I did a really longtime ago... almost a year ago actually.. but I knew a few people wanted to see them so here they are.

I started my internship with Jonathan Canlas and Leo Patrone this last Friday and I am really excited about getting back into shooting film. I feel like I have already learned more in the last few days then what I have learned at school in the last semester. I am going to be way more rockin' awesome by the end of this summer!!
I would suggest you booking a session with me now before... you know I become way too rockin' awesome. I will keep you posted with all of my fun adventures with Jonathan this Spring and Summer!

Ginger Wasabi Beef

Oh my goodness this is good!!! Kekoa and I had a sandwich similar to this a few weeks back and thought the idea was good but that the execution could have been better. So.... I came up with my own version. I totally trumped the restaurant.

RECIPE:

1 t Wasabi Paste
3-4 Tbs Mayonaisse
Pickled ginger
.5 lb Fresh sliced roast beef from deli
your favorite bread
Mountain of fresh spinach

Just mix up the wasabi and mayonaise, add more or less wasabi depending on how much kick you want. Then just make a sandwich like a normal person. Add a cheese if you please. I think thinly sliced Asiago cheese may be good, but didn't think about that before, but will try it next time.

Makes about 4 samwitches
